Gel coat

A gel coat is a material used to give a high quality finish to the surface of a fibre-reinforced composite. The most common are based on epoxy or unsaturated polyester resins.

Gel coatings are modified resins applied in a liquid state that polymerise to form cross-linked polymers on glass or carbon fibre reinforcements. These coatings offer both a glossy surface and a high durability characteristic, providing resistance to UV, degradation and hydrolysis.
